Cebu’s traffic congestion has long been a struggle for commuters, businesses, and even tourists. To address this, the Metro Cebu Expressway (MCE) was envisioned as a game-changing infrastructure project. With an estimated cost of ₱94 billion, the expressway promises to reduce travel time, ease traffic along major highways, and provide a massive boost to Cebu’s growing economy.

Since its launch, the project has faced several setbacks—including environmental concerns, right-of-way conflicts, and insufficient funding from the national government. Today, hope is rekindled. Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro is urging the national government to prioritize and revive the long-delayed expressway. If completed, the Metro Cebu Expressway could redefine mobility across the province and solidify Cebu’s role as a vital economic hub in the Visayas.
